The Webster technique was discovered by Dr. Larry Webster, founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), as a safe way to restore pelvic function and balance during pregnancy. It’s a specific sacral analysis to determine sacroiliac (S/I) joint dysfunction and sacral subluxation followed by a diversified, sacral adjustment. Symptoms of biomechanical restriction around the pelvis include low back pain, sciatic neuralgia, and symptoms associated with sacral subluxation.
Sacral subluxation can contribute to difficult labour for the mother, one example being dystocia. Dystocia is caused by inadequate uterine function, baby malpresentation, and pelvic contraction. Correcting sacral subluxation can have a beneficial effect on all of these causes of dystocia.
While more research is currently being done by the ICPA, there are published cases in chiropractic literature that support the theory that restoration of pelvic neuro-biomechanics achieved through the Webster technique frequently facilitates optimal fetal positioning.
It’s crucial for both the mother’s health and the baby’s health that the mother has optimal pelvic neuro-biomechanics. That’s why it’s important to have this type of sacral analysis and adjustment during pregnancy to detect and address sacral imbalance. To learn more, please don’t hesitate to call us in Chestermere!
